South Australia is the nation’s space capital, and the opportunities in the industry are skyrocketing. With more than 100 space organisations calling Adelaide home, this is where you can turn your dreams for a career in the space industry into reality.
And now, accessing a career in space just got easier.
Adelaide-based Myriota, a global leader in remote IoT connectivity, is celebrating 10 years of innovation by investing in the next generation of space talent.
The Myriota Impact and Access Fund will offer annual grants of up to $7,000 for students from remote and regional communities pursuing tertiary studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with a focus on space science, engineering and environmental monitoring.
The funds will assist with expenses related to relocation accommodation and study with recipients also gaining mentorship from Myriota’s engineers and scientists, curated experiences across the space sector, and priority access to paid internships. Applications open in 2026 for students commencing studies in 2027.
This fund comes as Myriota celebrates a decade of growth and global impact. Myriota’s success has created highly skilled jobs in the sector going from three staff in Adelaide to more than 75 team members across 14 locations worldwide.
Founded in 2015 out of the University of South Australia’s Institute for Telecommunications and Research, Myriota’s goal was to create reliable, affordable connectivity to the Internet of Things for industries such as utilities, logistics, Defence, agriculture and environmental monitoring.
The company now serves over 200 customers in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. By 2026, the team is forecast to reach nearly 100 employees as expansion accelerates into Southeast Asia and Africa.
Eric Palermo, Head of the Australian Space Agency, credited Myriota with advancing Australia’s sovereign space capability.
“Myriota was part of a cohort of companies in the mid-2010’s, that stimulated the growth and development of the commercial space ecosystem that we have here in Australia today. What’s impressive over these ten years, is they are now delivering global services from one of the most complex satellite constellations an Australian company is operating today,” he said.
