South Australian university students have the opportunity to kick-start their careers in the defence industry, with BAE Systems Australia launching their graduate recruitment drive for 2023.
Recently welcoming 58 graduates to its national defence and security business, BAE Systems Australia now has 90 positions available across a wide range of fields, including engineering, project management, finance, human resources and commercial.
The graduate program offers tailored training and mentoring, flexible work practices and the opportunity to collaborate and network with other graduates across the country. Students can choose to be placed into an ongoing role or to experience three one-year structured placements in different specialist areas within BAE Systems Australia’s national operations.
BAE Systems Australia chief people officer Danielle Mesa said the organisation’s career opportunities for graduates are unlike those in other sectors.
“Our graduates get the chance to work with some of the nation’s leading scientists and engineers who are developing world-leading defence capabilities,” she said.
“I am delighted that we can provide a range of recruitment and work experience activities that support young people in our communities, right across the nation.
“Recruiting new talent is important for growing our future workforce and provides new and diverse perspectives which is critical to ensuring that innovation in our industry flourishes.”
For graduate aerospace engineer Stephanie McCulloch, BAE Systems Australia’s graduate program kick-started her engineering career and saw her grow both professionally and personally.
“Working for a national company provides an exciting array of projects across the nation and this really inspires me and drives me to continue learning as a young professional,” she said.
Underpinning the recruitment drive is the company’s commitment to the research and the development of world-leading technologies including hypersonics, autonomy and high-speed weapons to support the requirements of the Australian Defence Force together with major programs ramping up.
University students wanting to apply for the graduate roles should be:
- in the final year of their degree or recently completed their degree
- Australian citizens
- curious and enthusiastic learners.
BAE Systems Australia provided more than 140 early career opportunities to students through internships, apprenticeships and graduate roles last year, with more than 250 young people now working within the business’ early careers programs.
