Babcock launches new Graduate Program intake
Leading defence and aviation business, Babcock Australasia, is calling for applications for the next intake of its Graduate Program, with positions available across a wide range of fields.
The two-year program offers participants the opportunity to apply their technical skills and training in a practical environment, alongside an established team of industry professionals.
Positions are available for people who have studied Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Electronics. The program isn’t limited to STEM graduates though, with roles also available in project management, finance, marketing, human resources and IT.
Babcock Executive Director Engineering & Technology Brad Yelland said the program was an investment in the business’ future workforce by supporting emerging talent.
“We’re looking to the future of our operations and by nurturing budding talent we’ll be exposed to new techniques that will support our planning,” Mr Yelland said.
“Graduates are currently entering one of the most competitive job markets in history. In order to be recognised for their study and hard work, they need to have access to competitive entry-level opportunities.
“Our program allows for graduates to be mentored by industry experts and leads to true career outcomes. Upon completion, participants will remain employed with Babcock.” – Brad Yelland
The program has already proven to be a valuable development experience for Babcock Graduate Mechatronic Engineer and current Graduate Program participant, William.
The University of Adelaide Engineering (Mechatronic) Honours alumni joined the program in February this year, having previously spent time in the company’s marine engineering sustainment team.
“One of the most valuable things I’ve experienced is how different departments approach problems and how different contracts affect how the systems are delivered to the customer,” William said.
“I see Babcock as a company to help me grow into a strong technical engineer with the opportunity to work on a wide range of defence programs within the South Australian defence industry.”
William is currently on rotation within Babcock’s Counter Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and high yield Explosives (C-CBRNE) team where he is gaining experience across a broad range of areas including service activities for defence systems, tender evaluation and assessment, requirements analysis and verification, as well as safety engineering. He will move into a new rotation in November.
The call for Babcock Graduate Program applications closes on 10 July 2022, with the program set to commence in November 2002.
