The TAFE SA defence and shipbuilding careers page offers a wealth of information about what job opportunities can arise from their comprehensive list of relevant courses.
TAFE SA offers an Introduction to Naval Shipbuilding short course helping students prepare for employment in the Australian Naval Shipbuilding industry and a Diploma of Engineering (Technical). Find out how the skills and knowledge from the Diploma can be applied to the industry.
TAFE SA is also an accredited training partner of the Naval Shipbuilding College for the welding component of the Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade.
TAFE SA’s new Advanced Welder Training Centre is now delivering training following the installation of 12 welding simulators, which are the most advanced simulators of their kind in the world. The new simulators will ensure that local welders are ready to respond to the increased demand for their skills as part of the naval shipbuilding program and in advanced manufacturing.

The University of Adelaide’s new Bachelor of Technology in Defence Industry is a great way to gain a broad understanding of the foundations of technology, including computing, information, mathematics. Adelaide University also offer Defence Systems majors within five of their core engineering disciplines, which could lead to an innovative career in areas such as visual and situational awareness systems; military communications and networking; radar and electronic countermeasures; cybersecurity; marine engineering; and autonomous systems.
The University of Adelaide’s STEM Academy is an outreach program for students in Years 8-12 who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and maths. The academy aims to show students how to turn their passion for STEM into a career.

The Department for Education has created a scholarship fund to support high school students from under-represented groups to pursue science and mathematics (STEM) subjects at the SACE Stage 1 and 2 level.
The fund covers the cost of tutors, laptops, excursions or any other strategy that directly supports the student to achieve in their chosen STEM subjects and pathways.
Public school secondary students undertaking SACE stage 1 STEM subjects and SACE stage 2 subjects are encouraged to apply. All applications are assessed by a panel of representatives from industry, the Department for Education, secondary school principals and the Aboriginal community.
