KBR Director Technical Capability, Glenn Rypp

The difference between winning and losing in sport at an elite level ultimately comes down to how you find extra milliseconds or millimetres.

As someone who has been selected to represented Australia 12 times in canoe and kayak competitions, KBR’s Glenn Rypp applies the same principles at work; always seeking out improvements, no matter how small.

KBR is a defence and infrastructure business with about 2000 employees across Australia. Part of a global enterprise, KBR has been operating in Australia for more than 65 years delivering solutions across the defence, energy, resources, water and transport sectors.

As Director Technical Capability, Glenn’s role with the business involves developing new ways of working that improve the company’s overall performance.

“Enhancements to project management capability don’t have to be big to make a difference; even the most incremental changes add up over time and it’s important to keep looking for those opportunities that will provide our business with an edge,” he said.

“I get a lot of satisfaction from making our company a place we are proud to be a part of and improving ways of working to be more efficient with safety at the forefront of those improvements.

“This also enhances our relationships with suppliers as they are also looking for partners that are easy to do business with as well as compliant, have a good culture and are cost-effective.”

A South Australian educated and trained engineer with wide-ranging experience in the local defence industry, Glenn says that he was attracted to KBR because of the challenge of leading continuous business improvement to support those delivering and the personal alignment he had with the company’s culture.

“A lot of companies talk about culture but what has really impressed me since I joined last year is that KBR stands by its values and they are visible in action, every single day. Fundamental to KBR’s success; we live our values.”

“I believe that when you are a values-driven business that puts people first, business growth naturally follows and that has certainly been my experience since joining the business last year.”
